As an evolving community engaged with the living, breathing body of knowledge of LBMS, we seek to grow and nurture a sustainable platform that fosters a vibrant and inclusive community, united by a shared dedication to consensus building. We embrace curiosity and counterpoints to realize the potential of our shared community and of our field.
Mid-July 2025 marks the historic gathering of the notation and movement analysis communities at The Ohio State University.
The 34th Biennial Conference of the International Council of Kinetography Laban/Labanotation conference kicks off this event, with sessions running Monday, July 14—Friday, July 18 (arrival Sunday July 13).
The inaugural International Conference on Laban Bartenieff Movement Studies (LBMS), organized by the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies (LIMS) follows, beginning on Friday, July 18 thru Sunday, July 20. This first day of the conference will incorporate some joint program sessions with ICKL, including a keynote address by Bebe Miller and a shared social event. A workshop session on archival research in both fields will take place on Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20. In addition, there will be opportunities for both communities to participate in each other’s conference partially or fully.
The LBMS 2025 Programming Subcommittee is now accepting proposals for sessions, until February 28th, 2025. Download the CFP for guidelines and submission process.
We offer a number of opportunities to market and sell your brand, services, and products. Download the prospectus below for a list of options. We have something for every budget.

In an effort to provide a positive experience, we will adhere to the following Code of Conduct:
The Laban/Bartenieff Institute for Movement Studies (LIMS) is committed to creating and supporting inclusive, diverse, and equitable communities of practice. We strive to be a welcoming organization and the focal point for an LBMS culture that is anti-oppression, anti-racist, recognizes intersectionalities, and works compassionately across difference. Together, LIMS members advance research, learning, social justice, and the public good through the creative design and wise application of LBMS. We know that the best problem-solving and critical thinking happens when people with a wide array of experiences and perspectives come together to work in comfort and safety as peers. We therefore expect participants in the LIMS community to help create thoughtful and respectful environments where that interaction can take place.
