Each of our Introductory Workshops run over just one weekend and are offered four to five times a year taught by experienced Certified Movement Analysts (CMAs). We recommend you begin with Anatomy & Kinesiology followed by Bartenieff Fundamentals and finish with Laban Movement Analysis. All three courses are required pre-requisites for entry into the LIMS Certification Program in Laban Movement Studies.

Introduction to Bartenieff Fundamentals (BF) – $375
Bartenieff Fundamentals (BF) are a set of principles developed by Irmgard Bartenieff, who studied with Rudolf Laban. Bartenieff developed a methodology exploring the principles of kinesiological functioning that can be used to observe and analyze our bodies in motion that can be extended to all types of movement possibilities. Immerse yourself in an extraordinary, integrative movement experience that goes beyond technique. Explore the underlying principles of movement through the lens of Bartenieff; this somatic movement approach that is shaking up and waking up the fitness, performing arts, and communication worlds.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I have to have prior dance or movement experience? No, you do not. All our introductory workshops assume that you have no prior knowledge of the material and you do not have to be a professional dancer or athlete. Anyone interested in learning more about Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis is welcome to attend our workshops.

I registered for a workshop but I cannot attend it. What can I do? Let us know as soon as you can. You can either request a refund or transfer your registration to another date up to one year after your registration date with no additional fees incurred. You may even transfer to one of our other introductory workshops.

What do I need to bring to the workshop? Please plan to arrive approximately 10-15 minutes before the class starting time. Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in, and plan to be barefoot. You may wish to bring a sweatshirt, socks, and a towel or yoga mat as we will be on the floor. If you wish to take notes, bring a pen/pencil and either a notebook or pad of paper. Also, I would advise a bottle of water and snacks although you will have a break for lunch.

Do I need to purchase any books? You will be receiving handouts as part of the course. There are no required textbooks, but we will have several books available for purchase at the LIMS® office.

I am taking the workshop to satisfy a requirement for my college or university, will you provide proof of my attendance? Yes, upon request, we will provide you with a certification of completion that you can submit to your school.
